My name is Becca Aponte. I live in Isabela, on the northwest coast of the island of Puerto Rico. I studied industrial engineering and mathematics. Yes, I know, IE + math ≠ fine arts, right? “reinventing myself”? well, A couple of years ago I decided to leave a boring and toxic office job for a cozy, colorful small room in my home. A room filled with sketch pads, magic wands full of color and an iPad. There, I began to read, study other artists, and teach myself to become an illustrator and graphic designer.
“There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.”
― C.S. Lewis
When I was 10 years old, I won a Christmas card contest. My rustic artwork was chosen by the local Citibank marketing department as the official design for their Christmas greeting cards that year. That achievement was the cornerstone of my artistic journey.
I love to draw cute and simple illustrations with graphite, charcoal vine and also with digital tools. i love to paint with watercolors, pastels, colored oil, ink, metallic & watersoluble pencils. I am mesmerized by colors.
Influences, inspirations? I love the work of so many artist. the list is endless, however, Angel Botello has had the most profound impact on me. I discovered his art as a teenager and immediately fell in love with it. His “Botellian Style” has shaped my approach to drawing, emphasizing originality and freedom through the use of irregular shapes and simple lines.
I don’t like to draw or paint what is expected, a pink goldfish? why not : )
